My Last Post on Ghost

I want to thank everyone who has followed me here on Ghost. I don't know if you had noticed already but I moved my Techuisite domain back to Medium. My amount of writing as gone down a lot here, not because my passion for writing has gone away, but my ability to write as much as I used to just no longer justifies paying for a service like Ghost to host my website.

Going forward I will continue to post on Medium behind a paywall, but I also plan to post on my personal blog Alvalog, where I plan to post Friend Links so you will be able to still read my tech and gadget related posts there.

For example:

RingConn2 Smart Ring Review
My transition from smart watch to smart ring is feeling pretty permanent.

My goal is to have all my tech review and gadget posts be exclusively on Medium going forward, with Friend Links posted to Alvalog for those who don't want to sign up for Medium's subscription. In some cases I will also publish the pull post to Alvalog, I am not going to be super strict one where I post what where, but when I write about things like e-ink devices or big review like a new phone or laptop I will probably publish in both places.

Alvalog is a name I came up with about a year ago and it literally stands for Alvarez (my last name) Blog, it is my personal website that I have talked about before and used for more personal posts like album reviews, thoughts about current events, and linked posts. I don't know exactly what will be posted, unlike Techuisite where it will be exclusively a tech blog, but I have been getting into analog writing tools, and been wanting to write about some of the books I have been reading that just don't fit on a tech blog.

Alvalog — Notes on Technology, Tools & Craft
A personal publication exploring technology, writing tools, and modern craft. Written by Paul Alvarez.

So this isn't me saying goodbye to writing online, but a shift in where and how I will be writing online. I am a millennial and grew up with the explosion of the internet. I am obsessed with it and technology. I can't see a time I ever stop talking and wanting to write about tech. This is just goodbye to Ghost.

I have tried Squarespace, Blot.im, and a ton of other hosting platforms and realize I just need something simple to get my thoughts out. Alvalog is hosted through a GitHub page, so not only is it free but super customizable (a frustration I have had with Ghost for awhile). I also don't care about newsletters, stats, or any other feature these platforms offer. I just want to write.

So if you are still interested in what I have to say I would recommend checking out Alvalog. Like I said earlier I plan to post every Techuisite post there, without the paywall, and other things that I find interesting.

I want to thank you all again for following my work and reading what I have posted here. Some may have come from Medium, so if you want to go back reading my tech reviews there, and already have a subscription, that is an options. If not, Alvalog is the place where I will be most.

See you elsewhere.

Paul.
